When someone shares research during a presentation, conference, or webinar, for example on the popularity of specific social media, I am particularly sensitive to whether the data they are presenting is current or, for example, from 3 years ago.
You can easily find newer statistics or information.
The same goes for articles. If I want to be fair to the reader and I cite some interesting research, I try to check after some time whether it is still relevant.
It may happen that new statistics contradict the results achieved earlier. Or in the germany rcs data meantime, some Tik-Tok has appeared, which has changed the dynamics of the most popular social media in the target group of potential customers.
Content Marketing and Content Updates – Summary
Before you start working on your content and thinking about which ones to update, I suggest you ask yourself one question:
What for?
I will show you this with my examples.
I would love to make changes to my past talks. For example, on the methods of working on Facebook campaigns, which I recorded 5 years ago. Today I would give completely different advice.
Unfortunately, I can no longer change the recorded speech, but I can influence the information contained in the article.
It was similar with the post about boosting posts . I used to not be a fan of this tool because it was so simplistic, but it has developed.
As such, you’ll find plenty of praise for it in my updated post about boosting posts on Facebook and Instagram . And while boosting posts still has some limitations that I’m clear about, I’m not as negative about it as I used to be.
It also happens that as I review and update my previous content, I delete some of it completely.
As an example, I will give you an article that I prepared many years ago (let me remind you that I have been present on the “blog scene” for about 10 years). In it, I wrote that a newsletter for a blogger is – wait! – a ridiculous idea.
Of course, I have had a newsletter for years that reaches over 40,000 recipients. And I am very happy that all of them want to receive my texts and read them.
But I was so ashamed of that article that I kept it for a while as a kind of "shame loop." And also as a reminder that anyone can change their views.
But then I thought someone might read it and be influenced by the approach it takes. So I deleted it along with many others like it.
So, before you start working on your own materials, think about what content can be updated and what is not worth your attention at all.
Has your approach or point of view on an issue changed?
