The “secret” to winning customers and loan officer email list achieving higher sales is as simple as understanding what your buyer wants .

We are all different, but in many cases our brains are prone to react in a similar way , and understanding these subtleties in the human mind can help your company find creative ways to (ethically) attract and get more buyers to say “Yes!” to your products or services.

The following infographic, created by HelpScout , shows 10 proven studies on social psychology that reveal how to persuade them and how to win clients .

1. Help your buyers break out of “action paralysis” by making minor adjustments
Research by Dr. Robert Cialdini showed how making a minor adjustment to an application increased donations to the American Cancer Society by 78%.

Two sentences were used to close a door-to-door donation request. Researchers evaluated the effect of a slight variation in wording:

1. “Would you be willing to help by making a donation?”

2. “Would you be willing to help by making a donation? Every penny will help.”

Those who were asked the second question were twice as willing to donate .

The best part is that their amount of money donated was not less than those who donated through the first variant. Since “every penny” helped, they were willing to donate as much as those in the first question did.

What can you do?
Remind your buyers how easy it is to get started ( “No fees for your first month!” ) to help them break through action paralysis.

2. Harness the power of tags to win customers
As strange as it may sound, people like to be “labeled ,” especially if it refers to exclusivity or being part of a specific community. A behavioral study examined the voting patterns of 133 adults.

After being casually questioned about their regular voting patterns, half of the participants were told that they were much more likely to vote because they had been deemed by the researchers to be “politically active” (this was not true, as these people were selected at random).

Despite this random selection, the group that was told they were “politically active” participated 15% more than the other group, demonstrating the power that labels have to win followers and, ultimately, to win customers.

What can you do?
Our brains seek to maintain a sense of consistency (even if it’s artificial). If we were told that we were part of a group, as long as it was about something we approved of (like “being a responsible voter”), we would become more receptive to their message.

For this reason, “gold” or “platinum” labels work effectively for a loyalty program that aims to win customers .

Even when given an artificial reason, people are more likely to perform actions in order to feel like they belong to an “elite.”
