The foundation for the disposal of electrical and electronic equipment (stiftung ear) registers the manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment and coordinates the provision of collection containers and the collection of old equipment from public waste disposal authorities in the Federal Republic of Germany.

For this purpose, the Federal Environment Agency has assigned sovereign tasks under the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) to the ear foundation. Specifically, the ear foundation ensures the implementation of the law in a competitive manner by:

– Registration of manufacturers who place electrical equipment on the market in Germany or, in the case of authorisation under Section 8 of the ElektroG, of their authorised representatives
– Warranty checks
– Determination of collective manufacturer guarantee systems
– Recording of the quantities of electrical equipment placed on the market
– Coordination of the provision of containers for handover points and the collection of old equipment from public waste disposal authorities
– Collection of fees for the public services it provides

The ear foundation acts as the “joint body of manufacturers” belarus gambling data within the meaning of the ElektroG. It was founded by manufacturers as part of the implementation of the EU directive on reducing the increasing amount of electronic waste from electrical equipment that is no longer in use (WEEE directive) into national law.

In 2020, the Federal Environment Agency also assigned sovereign tasks under the Battery Act to the ear foundation. It thus also ensures the competitive implementation of the Battery Act by fulfilling the following tasks in particular:

– Registration of manufacturers who place batteries on the market in Germany or their authorized representatives under the Battery Act
– Approval of self-collection systems for used portable batteries
– Collection of fees for the public services they provide

The ear foundation is run exclusively on a cost-covering basis, expressly without the intention of making a profit, and is both financially and personnel-independent. Its activities are financed by fees that are set by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) through a fee regulation.
