Chris Gardner, vice president and research director at Forrester, discusses what's coming to software development in the coming year on the company's blog.Citizen development will lead to a high-profile security breach. The field has evolved from experimentation to the ability to replace core applications, with 39% of companies currently using low-code to empower developers outside of IT, and 27% planning to do so in the next 12 months. However, this influx of new developers has created a critical mass of business professionals who are just beginning to master application security, secure coding, and data protection. As a result, we expect a high-profile security breach to occur as a result of citizen development in 2023. To avoid this, low-code development teams and security teams must work together to redefine roles, set up firewalls, and implement governance policies specifically designed for citizen development.
Software is an expression of an enterprise's business activity. To achieve this expression, developers are always faced with a sea of opportunities — and challenges. As the number of API adopters from the georgia mobile database world grows, so too does the security threat to civilian development at the perimeter. Note also that for all the progress in managing the value stream, there has been little progress in API standards for the metaverse. Software development is a continuous process of ups and downs that people, whether professional or civilian developers, must overcome.
In 2022, we predicted that event-driven architecture would take over, mobile development environments would increasingly support web implementations, development teams would move to consolidated DevOps toolchains, development tools would be enhanced by artificial intelligence, and collaboration management would surpass strategic portfolio management in importance. These predictions have largely come true.
In 2023, we predict more turbulent seas for software development. The waves will be split between high (API efforts will be driven by business goals) and low (despite all the efforts to create standards, some areas of development are still in their infancy). In particular, we predict the following:
