Organizations are losing control over cloud data

Data in corporate clouds is more dispersed than most organizations realize, putting them at risk of losing control of their data, according to a report from McAfee , outlined by ComputerWeekly .

The rapid growth of the cloud leaves organizations unable to see all the data they store there, putting them at risk of data loss and regulatory compliance, according to McAfee's "Enterprise supernova: The data dispersion, cloud adoption and risk report."

The report focuses on the distribution of data between ghana whatsapp data and the cloud. “The evolution of the cloud is unstoppable, and the dispersion of data presents new opportunities for both growth and risk,” said Rajiv Gupta, senior vice president of cloud security at McAfee. “Security that is data-centric, creating a spectrum of controls across the device, the web, and the cloud, presents an opportunity to break away from yesterday’s paradigm of building security around the network, which is insufficient for today’s cloud-first world.”

McAfee says the proliferation of high-risk cloud services is creating new areas of risk. More than half of companies use cloud services that contain hacked user data.

79% of companies store sensitive data in public clouds and use an average of 41 cloud services. Thousands of other services are accessed ad hoc without any review by their IT departments.

The prevalence of shadow clouds increases the risk to companies many times over, McAfee says. For example, about 26% of files in the cloud contain sensitive data, but 91% of cloud providers do not encrypt data at rest, meaning it cannot be protected if the provider’s system is hacked.
