Facebook announced yesterday that it is testing a "Buy Now" call-to-action button with select US small and medium-sized businesses, allowing users to purchase products directly on Facebook without leaving the site. There's no word yet on when the button will be rolled out.
Here's what it looks like:
The button will reportedly be added to both ads and non-sponsored Page posts, and according to Techcrunch, Facebook isn't ruling out charging for this button in the future.
Facebook also reiterates its commitment to focusing on privacy, which isn't surprising after recently coming under fire for privacy concerns surrounding the infamous psychological study.
Twitter Is Doing It Too
A "buy now" button was also spotted on Twitter last week, showing instagram data that both major companies are trying to grab a piece of the e-commerce pie.
While these buttons are a fantastic opportunity for SMBs advertising on Facebook and Twitter, it will be interesting to see how users receive this feature.
The love/hate relationship people seem to have with social media and critics' refusal to accept that social ads work will undoubtedly be put to the test.
