What do I mean by that?

However, from my experience and observations of client accounts that I audit or consult on, I can conclude that most people assume that different types of Facebook ad targeting are unrelated.

The three standard types of targeting, or selecting a target group on Facebook, are:

Interests – what does someone like, what are they interested in?
Custom groups – i.e. remarketing in a broad sense: people who visited the site, interacted with cambodia rcs data your posts, etc.
Similar groups .
Another aspect of excluding or overlapping groups is that these groups can overlap . Because if you set up an ad for the interest “rock music”, it doesn’t say anywhere that these can’t be people who have already been to your site. And if, for example, you sell rock music albums, it’s no wonder that your audience will have exactly those interests.

Meanwhile, many advertisers I talk to assume that when you place an ad based on interests, it will implicitly reach only people who have not had any contact with you yet.

And that's not true!

And this conclusion brings us to the main message of this article that I want to leave you with.

Who to exclude from your ad set
Whenever you set up an interest-based ad , you need to do one thing – exclude the following three custom remarketing groups from your campaign:

people who have visited your website in the last 30 days;
people who were active on your Facebook;
people who were active on your Instagram account – because it is a separate group. Partially the same, but there are also people who do not have a Facebook account or do not interact with your brand there.
You need to exclude these three groups from your ad set, which is where you configure such elements.
