How I Became a Copywriter

One piece of advice I always give to future copywriters is to build your portfolio . At one point, to have something to show in it, I started to find websites of companies and organizations (e.g. NGOs) that I thought had bad texts. Then I wrote my own versions and sent them to the contact address as a proposal for free use. In return, I only wanted permission to put the company logo in the portfolio.
The vast majority of such messages remained unanswered. However, several companies and organizations decided to use my help. There were even those who decided to pay for work that was never commissioned and was voluntarily given for free!
Polonist = good copywriter? Not necessarily
When I started looking for a job in an advertising agency, as a graduate of Polish studies, asia rcs data it was easier for me on the one hand. This type of studies are welcome. On the other hand, it was worse: certain writing habits from term papers and diplomas, which are shaped by Polish studies, should be eradicated in the business world as soon as possible.
They get in the way so much that one piece of advice I always jokingly give about writing is “remember everything you were taught about writing in school and college, and then do the opposite.”
Fortunately, philological departments are increasingly educating Polish philologists also in the field of applied forms. I will immodestly say that at my alma mater, Nicolaus Copernicus University, I contributed to this by inventing the copywriting specialization.
