SEMrush is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year! We’re kicking off the celebrations with a big announcement and a sneak peek at something we like to call SEMrush 2.0.

Last year we were recognized as the Best SEO Software Suite of 2017 by the European Search Awards, the United States and the United Kingdom Search Awards. But perfection knows no bounds.

With our upcoming innovations, we will continue to raise the bar for digital components of a job seekers database marketing tools, and since the cornerstone of any analytics process is data, that’s exactly where we’re starting our innovation.

Data: What Makes It Accurate?
Before we dive into the details, let’s recap the main ideas and arguments surrounding keyword search volumes and why they matter to digital marketers.

Volume indicates the popularity of keywords through the number of searches and is a very valuable metric for SEOs. Here it gets interesting: how do we get this data?

Google is the only official source of keyword search volume, but over the years it has become less and less enthusiastic about sharing this information. That's where clickstream data comes in.

Clickstream is an anonymous record of user activity across web browsers and various apps. This information is aggregated by data companies and sold to all sorts of analytics platforms. Collecting this information is the easy part, processing it to get meaningful results is much more complicated. Incorrect volume estimation leads to incorrect keyword targeting, which ultimately ruins your SEO and PPC campaigns.
