Renaming is not a solution

Now #Blacklivesmatter has definitely reached Switzerland. It is not an island. Although company patron and Mohrenkopf king Robert Dubler might wish it to be. And with him the hundreds of thousands of Swiss people who fervently opposed abolishing the term "Mohrenkopf" in online voting at the end of last week.

The products of the traditional Aargau brand greece rcs data were delisted by Migros without further ado. Because of the name. Migros had supposedly bowed to a single demand that had drawn attention to the discriminatory connotations of the term and demanded delisting. However, the retailer overlooked the fact that it also sells a product called Moretti ("little nigger") under its own brand M-Budget, as was aptly noted on Twitter. Without a holistic view, statements of attitude are difficult (I have already described this: see persoenlich.com/blog ).

One thing that has to be said in company boss Dubler's favour is that he has a backbone. This is not the first time he has been criticized. He has always maintained that he sees no racist connotations. But his stubbornness is also dangerous. He overlooks the fact that language and codes are a breeding ground for the cultivation of racism. Dubler is in danger of becoming an icon of the Swiss right-wing scene. This is exactly what happened to the Lonsdale brand, which is well-known in boxing. It became the symbol of the neo-Nazi movement, and all because of a few unflattering letter sequences in the brand name. The same thing could happen to Dubler if he is not careful.
