But there are several “red flags” that signal that the 5S system needs to be implemented as soon as possible:
A lot of time is spent "putting out fires" and fixing problems.
People spend a long time looking for the things or documents they need.
Team members don't understand where everything is.
There is not enough work space in the premises.
There are a lot of things stored in the office that no one uses.
People move around work areas or between offices too frequently and chaotically.
There is chaos all around, the workplaces are dirty.
Thus, 5S should be used if the company has not established business processes, there is no order in actions, documents or things.
Components of the 5S system
Let's take a closer look at each of the main elements of the 5S system.
Sorting
