One of the advantages of the blockchain here is its “Single Point of Failure” aspect: if one of the nodes (therefore part of the data) is attacked, the others remain protected.

Ensure the traceability of treatments and facilitate the operation of their supply chains
In Africa, apps are starting to use blockchain to ensure traceability of treatments in order to address the massive problem of fake pharmaceutical products – a market that represents between 120 and 160 billion euros each year according to the WHO. For example, the French app Meditect in Ivory Coast .

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, explores how blockchain nurse database can help make vaccine supply chains more resilient.

Blockchain applications in the health sector are still too limited to the traceability of medicines; the application of the technology to other areas is hampered by the lack of regulatory adaptation in this area.

“Introducing the use of blockchain in more sensitive areas such as clinical trials and patient data management will only be possible once privacy issues have been resolved and the general public has become familiar with the technology. This will take time,” explains Michela Landoni, analyst at Fitch Solution.

A tool to fight against fake news
In Italy, ANSA has collaborated with a blockchain company EY Advisory SpA to fight fake news. The application allows ANSA to verify more than 1,000 news items per day. The aim is for the agency to ensure that when it is quoted somewhere, the information in question actually comes from its journalists. A digital sticker with the inscription "ANSAcheck" is displayed when the doubt about a piece of information is removed.
