Google has decided to launch a new algorithm for online stores at the end of the year. The aim of this algorithm is to prevent online stores of dubious quality from appearing in the top results on Google.
The improvement of this algorithm cannot be considered a novelty, since in 2010 Google already carried out a campaign to correct the ranking position of online stores with dubious reputation. Although at that time it was not specified that customer comments were the basis for evaluating the reputation of online stores, everything seems to indicate that now in 2013 it will be.

The new algorithm called Google Merchant Quality will be responsible for analyzing online stores to assess, based on customer comments, which online stores offer satisfactory online shopping experiences and those that do not, limiting the visibility of the latter and promoting the former.

Little is known about the new algorithm, but what seems almost certain is that Google Shopping will be the basis for obtaining product reviews and ratings. Obviously, this algorithm will push companies to have a presence on Google Shopping. We return to Google, as usual. There is a tool called Mobile-Friendly Test , where you can enter your website's URL to find out how mobile-friendly it is and whether we comply with the established principles.

The main factors are easy access to the content, whether it is responsive (adapts to the screen) and can be read clearly, its loading speed and the sizes of the buttons that appear on the website. Small letters, slow websites and those with moving content will be penalized.

The principles of mobile-first web design
Now that we know the basics of mobile-first web design, we can go into a little more detail. The principles for having a mobile-friendly design are usually based on the following recommendations.

Loading times: Fast browsing experience, where elements appear quickly and text doesn't move during the process.
High-quality images: to avoid blurring on high-definition mobile screens. However, they should not be too heavy, as this will slow down the loading of the page.
Font size: it should be legible, without the user having to zoom in to see the text comfortably. The same goes for buttons, they cannot be pressed accidentally or they cannot work.
Responsive web design: as we saw before, the design is displayed and adapted correctly to all screens, both mobile and computer.
Audiovisual content: easy to understand, direct and that enriches the user experience on our page, increasing user time and interactivity.
Don't clutter the display with pop-ups and offer user-friendly forms to have a satisfactory web design and experience.
