The iPad leaves us indifferent

After months of speculation, at the beginning of April we will be able to enjoy the brand new iPad , the new gadget from the Apple brand.

Intended, according to Steve Jobs himself , to fill the gap between the iPhone / iPod Touch and a MacBook , the new iPad arrives with the intention of becoming a gadget designed primarily for surfing the Internet and extendable through applications that can be purchased in the AppStore .

The brand new iPad

The new addition to the family is multitouch , has a 9.7" screen employment data and weighs 700 gr. It comes in three versions; 16, 32 and 64 GB and they promise a battery that lasts up to 10 hours , but I don't see myself able to back that up until it comes out on the market.

Good old Steve Jobs , who thinks of everything, wanted to take advantage of the size and mobility of the same to ensure that the iPad is a gadget created, among other things, to be used as an eBook reader . What this guy must not know is that backlit screens (as is the case with the iPad) are not comfortable to focus on for long periods of time, unlike the ones that are already adapted in most current readers.

Aside from the $ 500 price tag and its inability to multitask , there are several other points that generally make me not recommend it:

No Woman no FlashWith Safari but without Flash

We will be able to browse the Internet with Safari and HTML5, but we will not be able to install Flash , that is, we will not be able to view any presentation, web or video in their compatible formats. Regarding this, Mr. Jobs has declared: « Flash? We are not going to spend on obsolete technology ».

It is true that with the arrival of HTML5 it will not be necessary to install Flash to embed movies, but I think it will take a few years for this technology to be fully implemented.

Connectivity

Speaking of "obsolete technology", they also forgot to include a couple of USB ports as standard . On the same day of the product's presentation, it was also announced that to solve this problem we will be able to buy an adapter. Ok, so the product hasn't even been released yet, but it already has significant shortcomings and they've already thought of how to patch them up with Visa.

On the other hand, we have WiFi and Bluetooth to be able to transfer photos from the campsite to the mobile phone, and from there to the iPad to be able to send them by email to our neighbour on the plot. An easy and painless task, very useful for casual users.

There will be an improved version with 3G and HSDPA but you will have to wait a few months and pay again: $ 130 .

Usability

As is customary in the family of products from California, the device has an internal gyroscope , which allows it to be placed horizontally or vertically and thus take advantage of the default resolution of 1,024 x 768, ideal for viewing websites.

iPad disappoints usOther criticisms that have been made in recent days are about the on-screen keyboard and its portability . It seems that the public is not very sure how to use this on the street, due to its size and the need for a support to be able to type/navigate.

Conclusion

The iPad is by no means as " magical and revolutionary " as Apple claims , as it has left out many basic features and really does not bring anything new to the current market .
