Long tail on a pleasant afternoon

Post by sohanuzzaman56 »

Yesterday's edition of The Monday Reading Club was very different (and better ) than the previous two in which I had participated because:

– The Excellence Bookstore room was cozy and with certain space limitations that brought us closer .

– The moderators kicked things off and then steered the debate towards very interesting topics, with quotes, cases and real examples.

– The debate was intended to involve many of us who were business owner data user list there, which created a very rich atmosphere of discussion and exchange of ideas and positions.

– A little more than half of the audience had read the book, while the other half had not, so in some cases the starting point was the basic concepts and the discussion of business models or trends and the future market situation.

The call was focused on Chris Anderson's book : Long Tail Economics ; of the topics discussed here, several central ideas are:

– Pareto’s Law (80% – 20% or that 80% of your company’s income will come from 20% of your clients) is no longer the main theme. Today, critical masses are more distributed in smaller and more specialized segments, and the income they generate is just as interesting as a larger and more homogeneous segment. Therefore, it is necessary to take them into account.

– With the elimination of many production costs and the availability of technologies for the population, there is greater variety and this means greater sales.

– What keeps the “long tail” alive is the recommendation .

– The long tail requires expanding the concepts and possibilities of by-products of the same product/service, or identifying characteristics that make up a new product/service without having to create one from scratch.

The cases of Amazon and Barrabes were discussed with passion. Who bought only one book when they went to Amazon? was the question to demonstrate the well-managed and customer-friendly information system that tempts more than one reader to buy online, or the expansion of the Barrabes store specialising in the sale of accessories for climbing, mountaineering and trekking, among others, through recommendations and specialisation in a sector.

A delicious cava accompanied us during the networking and the invitation to the next edition :
