Sometimes it takes extra effort to stop, take a break from work, and continue working at the same speed. Even in Formula 1 competitions, where milliseconds matter, there are stops to check the car, refuel it, and change tires. But we often rush lap after lap and neglect to stop. Yulia Karaseva, founder and CEO of Inbalansy, told us how short breaks during the day help restore strength.
Why do we need breaks?
Time at work is limited, and you want to use namibia whatsapp phone number every minute, as tight deadlines and workload dictate their own. It seems that the worst thing about work is being slow and taking breaks. We perceive high speed at work as efficiency, and those who work a lot and do not rest as the most engaged and motivated employees. However, the lack of breaks in work, rest and recovery leads to a decrease in efficiency due to a loss of concentration. Simply put, we begin to make more mistakes.
Research shows that we have about six hours a day when we can be productive, which may be why some countries are considering moving to a six-hour workday.
However, if we add breaks and lunch to the six hours, we get an eight-hour workday. We can use the six hours of attention to cope with planned tasks, distribute them during working hours, taking into account the nature of our work, the workload, the rhythm of tasks, interaction and dependence on other colleagues.
But six hours of concentration is not six hours straight, without stopping, concentration tends to decrease.
Pauses, which can vary in duration and purpose during work, help restore focus.
Micro-pauses - we may not even notice such pauses, involuntarily immersing ourselves in our thoughts and returning to the task if we do something very familiar, working in automatic mode.
5-7 minute breaks are intentional pauses that you should take between tasks after 15-20 minutes of work if you are working in sprints, and longer ones after 40-60 minutes if you are working on a task that requires deep immersion.
A lunch break is a mandatory break during which it is important to concentrate on eating and not in front of a computer or phone screen. This is a time that can be combined with a short walk, physical activity and the opportunity to be outdoors.
What types of pauses are there?
