How the gerund is formed
To begin, let's see how the gerund is formed.

The basic rule is clear: we take the verb without to and add -ing. Apart from this, you only have to remember a handful of peculiarities:

In some cases, the final consonant of a verb is doubled, e.g. in greece phone number list or swimming .
